The integration of BASBF into UL is an important step in the higher education consolidation process, aimed at strengthening scientific capacity, the quality of education, and international competitiveness. At the UL staff assembly, the Deputy State Secretary for Human Capital, Science, and Innovation Development of the Ministry of Education and Science Lana Frančeska Dreimane, emphasized that BASBF’s integration with UL represents a synergy of valuable resources, knowledge, and experience. This should be seen not only as an institutional merger but also as a unique opportunity for university faculty, researchers, and students.
UL Rector, Professor Gundars Bērziņš, highlighted: “This integration makes it possible to expand the boundaries of science and education, combining UL’s academic and research capacity with BASBF’s specialization,” stressing that UL’s goal is to build an internationally competitive business education center in the Baltics.

Acting Dean of BASBF, Professor Līga Peiseniece, congratulated BASBF staff on the conclusion of an important stage of work and the beginning of a new one.
The integration takes place in line with the consolidation plan approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on May 23, 2023, and the Recovery and Resilience Facility-supported project “Internal and External Consolidation of the University of Latvia”. The cooperation agreement between UL, BASBF, and the Ministry of Education and Science was signed on August 28.
As a structural unit of UL, BASBF will develop into a Baltic-level business school, with a focus on financial technology study programs, innovations, and internationally accredited education. Already today, it stands out for its high employment rate, competitive graduate salaries, and close cooperation with industry.
Integration with UL opens doors to new development directions, while at the same time preserving BASBF’s identity and strengthening Latvia’s education export capacity.
