The strategic objective of the BA School of Business and Finance of the University of Latvia as a research unit is to develop excellence-driven research in cooperation with internationally recognized academic and industry partners. This enables participation in Latvian and European Union research and innovation programmes, the development of competitive solutions for both public and commercial research, and the delivery of research-based studies at all levels.
Until 31 August 2025, the School of Business and Finance operated as an independent higher education institution and, since 2016, was registered as a scientific institution. As of 1 September 2025, following its integration, it became part of the University of Latvia, continuing its established research traditions and further developing them in close connection with the study process and societal needs.
Research at the BA School of Business and Finance is carried out in three research laboratories specializing in strategically important areas:
- Financial Services and Compliance Laboratory
- Laboratory of Sustainability, Efficiency and Effectiveness
- Cybersecurity Research Laboratory
Research activities are closely integrated with the study process and learning outcomes. The work carried out by academic staff ensures the continuous development of study courses and the enhancement of students’ research skills. An important contribution is made by the practical course Applied Research, in which students conduct extensive research during the semester on real-life issues proposed by industry partners.
Regular cooperation partners include organizations such as Swedbank, Latvijas Pasts, the Ministry of Welfare of the Republic of Latvia, the Association of Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries of Latvia, the State Emergency Medical Service of Latvia, BALTA, If P&C Insurance, and others.
