At the conference, Dr. Jekaterina Novicka presented the findings of her doctoral thesis, focusing on the timely topic of the role of corporate information governance in enhancing companies’ readiness for digital sustainability reporting in the iXBRL format.
In her presentation, she highlighted that corporate information governance aligned with the requirements of digital sustainability reporting plays a crucial role in ensuring that sustainability practices within organisations generate economic business value. The presentation featured both quantitative and qualitative findings from her research.
This topic is particularly relevant at present, as the European Commission is expected to approve the simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) in the near future and introduce their digital XBRL taxonomy version. Discussions with industry experts revealed that many companies’ current sustainability reports are still far from meeting the structured approach required for reporting in the iXBRL format. Therefore, organisations should begin preparing today for the changes that lie ahead.
The conference brought together high-level international experts. Invited speakers included representatives from the Banque de France, the European Commission, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), and the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG). Jekaterina Novicka was among the few representatives from academia presenting scientific research alongside leading experts in the field.
Following her presentation, active discussions took place with conference participants, who expressed strong interest in the research findings and their practical application in corporate sustainability reporting processes.
Participation in an international conference of this calibre demonstrates the expertise and contribution of the BA School of Business and Finance of the University of Latvia’s academic staff to research on issues of European significance, while also strengthening the school's visibility within the international academic and professional community.
